Abstract

Objective: To assess the newborn outcome of pregnancy-induced hypertensive (PIH) mothers. Methods: In this non-experimental design, 50 mothers with PIH and their newborns were selected for the study. Study was carried out for a period of one month. Results: Results of the study revealed that majority of newborns of mild PIH mothers (16) were having Apgar scores of 7–10 at 1 minute and at 5 minute after birth. Whereas in newborns of severe PIH mothers, majority (08) newborns were having score of less than 4 at 1 minute, and at 5 minute, majority (13) of newborns were having a score of 4–6. Conclusion: Pregnancy-induced hypertension can cause many problems in newborn. If mother is affected by mild PIH, baby might not have severe symptoms. But in the cases of severe PIH, mother’s newborn might suffer more. We as a health team should be ready is such circumstances to manage such adversities.
