Assessment of Level of Hardiness and Psychological Wellbeing Among Adolescents from Selected Orphanage Schools
Abstract
The present study aims to explore the psychological wellbeing and hardiness of orphans from selected orphanage schools. The study design is Non-Experimental descriptive study. Sample size consisted of 250 adolescents’ who were from selected orphanage schools. A non-probability purposive sampling strategy was used to get the data. The setting of the study was selected orphanage schools from city. For assessing the level of hardiness, Dispositional Resilience Scale-15 and for psychological wellbeing Ryff scaletools were used for conducting the study. Result: Percentage wise distribution of sample according to their age depict that majority of adolescent orphans were from age group of 16-18 years. About 44% of them were males and 56% of them were females.58% of them were in high school and 62.4% of them were double orphan and most of the adolescent orphans i.e., 45.2% were spending their time in reading book as leisure time activity. Majority i.e., 77.6% of them had sleep schedule for less than 6 hours. From about 250 samples 54% of them were staying in orphanage homes for less than 2 years, 48.4% of them were orphan due to natural death of parents. Most of them were i.e., 93.2% were from private orphanage schools. Majority i.e., 40.8% of the adolescents from selected orphanage schools had low hardiness level and 44.4% of them had moderate psychological wellbeing. Level of hardiness were significantly associated with demographic variables i.e., age, gender, leisure time activity, sleeping time and years of stay in orphanage homes at 0.05 level of significance. And level of psychological wellbeing was significantly associated with age, gender, type of orphan, leisure time activity and year of stay in orphanage home.
