Effectiveness of Computer-assisted Instruction among Student Nurses

Abstract

Technology plays a major role in our teaching and learning strategies. Computer-assisted instruction (CAI) is an innovative resource for teaching content in a controlled environment focusing on individualized learning. So the study to evaluate the effectiveness of computer-assisted instruction developed on immunization program was conducted among student nurses of selected colleges of nursing of Delhi. It was an evaluative research with pre-test, post-test single group design. The study population included student nurses of selected nursing colleges of Delhi. Total enumeration technique was used to select the subjects from purposively selected colleges of nursing. The findings of the study revealed that the mean post-test knowledge score (21.18) was significantly higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score (14.3). The mean post-test attitude score (82.9) was significantly higher than the mean pre-test attitude score (73.2). Around 81% of student nurses expressed CAI as acceptable “to a greater extent.” The study concluded that CAI developed on immunization program was effective in enhancing the knowledge regarding immunization program and in improving the attitude towards CAI. The study recommends the advocacy by the educational institutions for incorporation of this strategy in the curriculum.
