Abstract

Job satisfaction and organizational commitment among employees are two important key components of any successful organization. There is sufficient evidence of research studies in Asia that explains level of satisfaction and organizational commitment among employees. Still there is need to explore these crucial aspects of the organization leading to undertaking of present study. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Convenience sampling technique was used to enroll 44 nurses working at Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), New Delhi. Self developed Instruments: Job Satisfaction Scale (JSS) and Organizational Commitment Scale (OCS) were used to collect data related to Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment among nurses. Findings show that 45% of nurses were highly satisfied with their job while 36% were highly committed to organization. Further, job satisfaction level was not associated with personnel attributes of nurses but organizational commitment was significantly associated with age (p=0.012) and designation (p=0.036) of nurses. Study also reveals a moderate positive correlation (r=0.317) between JSS and OCS. It is also evident that nurses who experienced high job satisfaction levels were highly committed to the organization. The study findings reported moderate job satisfaction and organizational commitment among nurses. The findings of the study recommend identification of factors influencing job satisfaction and organizational commitment and the use of information to conduct periodic checks upon facility available and hindering factors for achieving desired level of job satisfaction and commitment towards organization among nurses. Small sample size was only limitation of the study.
