Utilization of Research by Nurses—Nurses’ Perspective
Abstract
Nursing research is essential for continued improvement in patient care. However, the nurses have thus far failed to realize fully this potential for using research findings in the nursing practice. A descriptive survey was conducted to assess the barriers perceived by nurses in application of research evidence in nursing practice. Some of the barriers perceived by the nurses in utilization of research findings in nursing practice were—lack of knowledge about research and its utilization, lack of time, lack of access to research articles, journals, books, lack of facilities required for utilization of research in nursing practice, too many personal and professional responsibilities. Removing such barriers would be expected to strengthen evidence based nursing practice.
