Diabetes Mellitus: A General Review

Abstract


Worldwide, approximately 366 million people have diabetes mellitus, a number which is expected to rise to 552 million by 2030. The global number of people with pre-diabetes is currently around 280 million and is expected to grow to 398 million by 2030. India is expected to be the ‘world diabetes capital’ as Indians have genetic predisposition to develop diabetes mellitus which is further precipitated by lifestyle. Taking all these facts into consideration, there is a need of hour to create awareness, so that timely management of disease can help patients find quality added span of life.
