Palliative Care in Elderly: A Case Study

Many elderly people live in a good health in their old age. However, there are number of older people who develop complex physical and social problems as they grow older. They are likely to suffer from various medical problems of varying severity, requiring both health and social care. Palliative care is the interdisciplinary team approach that primarily focuses on improving quality of life of persons with advanced illness. With the almost non-existence of long term care facilities in the Indian settings, family care givers have to play a major role in providing care to elderly. The current case study highlights the application of palliative care by the formal and informal caregivers in an elderly woman in the home care settings.
