Background: Badminton requires agility for a better performance. Sprain in the ankle is a common disability for badminton players. Inadequate rehabilitation leads to chronic ankle instability. Rigid and Kinesio taping are used to decrease pain and increase strength. Objective: To compare the effects of rigid and Kinesio tape in subjects with chronic ankle instability for decreasing pain and increasing strength. Procedures: In the Group I, 15 subjects were administered with rigid tape along with stability exercises; and in Group II, 15 subjects with Kinesio taping and stability exercises for 2 weeks. A Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT), Pressure biofeedback unit (PBU) and Chronic ankle instability scale (CAIS) was used as an outcome measure. Results: Statistical analyses of pre and post scores of VAS, PBU, SEBT of both the groups were performed. Group 1 for SEBT shows a difference of 75.91% and group 2 as 71.28%. There was improvement of strength and decrease in pain in Group II. Conclusion: Both the groups improved in post-test scores when compared with pre- test results after the intervention but there is slightly better improvement in Group II which was intervened with Kinesio tape.References
