Knowledge and Attitude of Autorickshaw Drivers Regarding First Aid for Road Traffic Accidents

Abstract

Basic first aid training can make difference in reducing impact of injuries and save life in accidents. Descriptive research was done to assess autorickshaw drivers' knowledge and attitude towards first aid for road traffic accidents. The objectives of the study were to assess the level of knowledge and attitude of autorickshaw drivers regarding first aid for road traffic accidents, find association of level of knowledge and attitude with selected socio demographic variables and find corelation between their knowledge and attitude. Nonprobability convenient sampling technique was used to select 60 samples and the instruments used were structured knowledge questionnaire and 5-point attitude scale. Study showed only 28% had adequate knowledge regarding first aid for accidents. Approximately 60% had a positive attitude towards first aid. There was significant association of attitude with educational status of samples. The study also found a considerable positive association between the participants' knowledge of first aid and their attitude. (r=0.73).
