Abstract

Ayurveda is one of the oldest health care systems. As per Charak Samhita (One of the oldest classical text of Ayurveda), the aim of Ayurveda is to maintain the health of the healthy and cure the ailments of the diseased. Use of natural products, cost effectiveness, sustained use of thousands of years and awareness among the people regarding the indigenous has given momentum to the development of Ayurveda in recent times. The Government is also putting efforts for the promotion of the System with the establishment of separate ministry of AYUSH for indigenous system which is bringing forward various schemes for research, education and propagation of Ayurveda. Ayurveda has lot to offer for women healthcare right from pediatrics up to geriatrics. Awareness of Ayurveda among women can make them aware about healthy lifestyle; diet with the implementation of which they can improve their own health along with their family's health, so the health of the society at large. The increasing popularity of Ayurveda has opened many job opportunities in the field of Ayurveda pharmaceutical industry, Herbal cosmetic industry, R&D and education.
