The COVID-19 pandemic has already infected people in 188 countries across the world. No known antiviral drugs have been effective against this virus till now. Proper practice of hygiene, sanitization and social distancing is the only effective precaution against this novel coronavirus. Disinfection is not only required for hospitals and health centers but also for households, apartments, offices, educational institutes and other buildings of public interests not related to health sectors. Personal sanitization is also required to be properly maintained. A number of disinfectants of different chemical compositions are available for the purpose. However, sanitizing and maintaining proper hygiene would require frequent usage of such disinfecting agents, cost of which may be a burden on the financial ability of a person or an organization. Associated health hazards of the disinfectants and corresponding safety measures are also important factors to be known before application. This study mainly focuses on the relative cost, effectiveness and hazard analysis among the available disinfectants. Recommendation of disinfectants for specific societal purposes can be readily found from the charts provided.
