Abstract

Background: In recent studies, some data is presented that the estimation of gender and age could be possible using morphological characteristics of hyoid and mandible in dead bodies. For example, the mandibular angle is greater with growing age and female has narrower basihyal bone than male. However, it hasn’t yet studied about the exact digital materials. In this research, gender and age were estimated according to the morphological characteristics of hyoid and mandibular. Distinguishable indices from age and gender were established and then based on measurements the range of estimation was defined. Results: the diagonal length to body length of hyoid is 1.49 among over 10 old-men  but in females it is greater than 1.5. The complete fusion age of basihyal bone and diagonal plane(line) is over 51 in male persons but it is more than 41 in females. In addition, the angle between body and diagonal line is extended as being old. Conclusion: It is significant for estimation of gender and age.
