Child-oriented Care: Current Applications and Future: A Critical Review

Abstract


Child-oriented care is an evolving paradigm in paediatric healthcare, emphasizing the well-being and unique needs of paediatric patients and their families. This critical review explores the current applications of child-oriented care, including child-friendly hospital environments, the vital role of child life specialists, family-centred rounds, paediatric pain management, child-centred communication, and the integration of child life apps and virtual support systems. These strategies collectively foster a more compassionate, engaging, and effective healthcare environment for children. Looking to the future, this review highlights emerging considerations in paediatric care, such as advancements in telemedicine, personalized medicine based on genetics, digital tools for child mental health, precision medicine in subspecialties, virtual reality for pain management, child health data {analytics, childhood obesity prevention, and innovations in paediatric surgery. These developments underscore a steadfast commitment to continuously enhancing the quality of care for paediatric patients and their families.
