Analysis of Natural Pigments and its Application on Various Fields towards the Eco-Friendly Environment

Arthikha Rajasegaran, K. Madhanasundareswari

Abstract

The pigments that are found naturally in the environment are most likely to be said as "earth colour" or "earth pigment". The traditional pigments are observed to have all the substances that are available on the natural environment and are of more economic values. The pigments as a natural dye are observed to be safe, highly efficient and eco- friendly. These organic colorants are observed to contain oxygen, carbon with hydrogen and various minor elements. In recent days developing a safe and friendly inorganic pigment that replace the toxic elements such as Cadmium, Cobalt, Chromium, and Palladium are important towards health and the environment. Among those the natural pigments that are derived from plants, waste peels of vegetables and fruits are observed to have a good source of chlorophylls, betacyanins, carotenoids, anthocyanins, etc. are found highly efficient. The chapter includes the Environmental aspects of dyes to prevent various potential hazards and also its traditional application on textiles, paint, medical-diagnostic and molecular analysis. It also states on the character and structure of each pigment that deals with a unique step on various eco-friendly field. In addition to this, it states on the betterment of replacement of synthetic dye against its toxicological effect.

Keywords: Eco-friendly, environmental, natural pigment, organic colorant, traditional application
