Antifungal Activity of Thymol on Vegetable Tanned Leather
Abstract
Thymol is a key component of many essential oils and acts as active antimicrobial agent. It is a natural monoterpene phenol extracted from thyme, bishop’s weed (ajwain) and many other plants in varied quantities. Literature has marked for its successful application as antimicrobial activity. Thymol is used actively for its antibacterial and antifungal properties in agriculture and the field of medicine. In this research an attempt has been made to use thymol as antifungal agent taking vegetable tanned leather (VTL) as substrate against Aspergillus sp. and Cladosporium sp., common museum contaminant.
