Abstract

Abstract
Antibacterial effects of leaf or bud extract of selected medicinal herb Euphorbia hirta L. were examined using agar disc diffusion method against test bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Different solvents such as methanol, ethanol, dimethyl sulfoxide and aqueous were used for extraction. Maximum in vitro inhibition was observed in methanol extracts of Euphorbia hirta L. which offered inhibition zone of 20 mm and zone of inhibition area of 471.00 mm² against S. aureus. A significant inhibition of S. aureus was occurred in other solvents ethanol, dimethyl sulfoxide or aqueous of leaf or bud extract of E. hirta with inhibition zone of 15 mm and zone of inhibition area of 294.38 mm². Leaf extract using water produced minimum 13 mm zone of inhibition and zone of inhibition area of 294.38 mm² against S. aureus.
