Debashis Chakrabarty, Riju Bhattacharya, Srijita Mridha

Abstract

Oral cancer is a global problem, more in India. A study of 50 cases of oral lesions were conducted in a tertiary care hospital in Kolkata, India. Detailed clinical history was taken. Cytology, punch biopsy with histopathology and immunostaining with p53 and p16 were done in all the cases. A total of 31 cases (62.0%) were benign, 19 cases (38.0%) were malignant, with an age range of 26–69 years (mean age 47.7 years). Cytology, histology and immunostains correlated well. p53 and p16 both showed high scoring in malignant lesions and significant p-values.
