Reviewing Diagnosis and Management Strategies for Barrett's Esophagus

Deepa Narayan Naik, Albina Eugenio Pereira

Abstract

Incidence of distal oesophageal carcinoma is increasing faster than that of any other visceral cancer in the western world. It is commonly known that the most, if not all, of theses tumours arise in the Barrette oesophagus through the metaplasia-dysplasia-carcinoma sequence. Which may allow for early detection; nonetheless, most of these tumours are still discovered much late in their progression. This emphasizes how far of the aim of adequate surveillance for patients at risk of distal oesophageal cancer is developed. BE is a metaplastic alteration of the oesophageal mucosa , distinguished by the presence of goblet cells in columnar epithelium and salmon coloured lining. Oesophageal adenocarcinoma is a well-known precancerous condition with extremely low survival rates whose occurrence is rising quickly. The controversy around its diagnosis and treatment persists despite a wealth of research. This article is to give a summary of recent findings and recommendations related to the topic
