Mumtaz Jahan, Ashhar Qadeer, Huma Noor

Abstract

Unani System of medicine stands to maintain the health and cure the disease with an emphasis on prevention is better than cure. The ancient Unani philosopher-physicians put forth the concept of “Tabi‘at” as the power endowed by nature to everyone to govern the task of survival. Tabi‘at is the Sayyad-ul-Quwa (supreme power) under which many other subsequent powers work. In general, Tabi‘at regulates all physiological functions in the body, broadly classified as (1) Nazim-e-Badan, (Regulation and organization of body functions), (2) Mudabbir-e-Badan (detoxification of the body), (3) Muhafize-e-Badan (Natural and Acquired immunity). This paper aims to explain the role of Tabi‘at with a special focus on its regulatory function, i.e., Tabi‘at as Nazim-e-Badan. Tawazun-e-Hararat (Thermoregulation) and Quwwat-e-Bah (Aphrodisiac power) are examples to elaborate the concept
