Abstract

Episodic throbbing or rhythmic pain, sometimes on one side of the head is a type of a Migraine. As per the widespread report, Migraine is the third most prevalent disorder in the world. In Greek medicine, Migraine is referred to as shaqiqa received from an Arabic word ‘shaq’ means ‘half part’.According to Greek classical literature, migraine could be a disease caused either by Imtela (congestion) or akhlat (humor) or by vapors produced by hot  humour. Accordingly, Shaqeeqah has been categorised as Shaqeeqah Haar (Hot migraine), Shaqeeqah Barid (Cold migraine) and Shaqeeqah due to hot vapours.Depending upon the cause, each type is treated accordingly. The condition is difficult to treat with medication alone. Depending on the cause, each type is treated in a completely different way with a variety of therapeutic strategies andilaj bit tadbeer (regimenal therapy) pharmacotherapy. The purpose of this thesis is to thoroughly understand the illnesses in an  Unani context in various aspects such as etiology, pathologic process, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, line of treatment and medications.
