Abstract

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common bacterial infection encountered in clinical practice. Madhu piramiam is a syndrome described in Siddha system includes the symptoms of male urogenital infection in diabetes mellitus. To evaluate the correlation of madhu piramiam in Siddha with a syndrome of urogenital discharge of male patients with glycosuria in diabetes mellitus and to characterize the disease in the perception of Siddha. Clinical research was carried on male patients having chronic glycosuria with urinary tract infection by setting inclusion and exclusion criteria. Healthy volunteers were examined for comparison. The following criteria were taken namely clinical picture, symptoms, age of occurrence, food habit, occupation, general etiology stated in scripts, body configuration, habitat, status of three humours, status of seven body tissues, season, zodiac sign and duration of illness. Odds ratio with 95% confidence interval (CI) was used for statistical analysis. Symptoms of madhu piramium described in the scripts were highly correlated with glycosuria induced urogenital tract infection in male. The status of three humours and the seven body tissues were significantly different from healthy volunteers. Occurrence of the disease was high in late summer followed by rainy season. Occurrence was more in 50–60 years of patient’s age. The disease madhu piramium is highly correlated with the disease of male with glycosuria associated with urogenital infection. It is characterized as a disease of deranged vaathapitham
