Effect of Samshodhana in Recurrent Pregnancy Loss: A Case Study

Introduction:-: Shodhana with Panchkarma is a complete promotive, preventive and curative procedure for healthy living. Ayurveda advises to undergo specific Panchkarma regime according to season for purification of body, to relax the mind and to improve the digestion and metabolism. It eliminates metabolic toxins from the body, removes any unhealthy conditions developed in our system, improves health condition and increases the chance of conception and aids in natural birth. Case Study: -A 23 23 years old married female, visited Panchkarma Department OPD of Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Post Graduate Ayurvedic College, Paprola, with history of previous two abortions in first tirmester. The Patient patient had married life of two 2 years and was having regular menstrual cycles of 4-–5 /30-–32 32 days. Proper counselling of couple was done for planning further pregnancy and averting the misfortune of missed abortion in this pregnancy. Treatment Protocol:-: Samshodhana which includes Vaman and Virechana was selected as purificatory measure for couple. After Samshodhana, the patient conceived spontaneously with normal USG findings. Discussion:-: Vata and Kapha vitiation was observed in this patient; and Kapha vitiation is was mainly responsible for first trimester abortion. In this case, the treatment was directed towards pacifying the vitiated Kapha Dosha by Vaman. , and Virechana was mainly for Anulomana of vitiated Vata and for Beeja Karmukta. No adverse effect was observed during the treatment.
