Abstract

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of hot fomentation on leg discomfort among chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. A Quasi experimental study was conducted on chronic kidney disease patients (n=60) at MMIMSR and Hospital, who were divided into two groups experimental and control group. The data was collected by leg discomfort rating scale. Hot fomentation was administered to CKD patients twice a day for three days in experimental group. The data obtained was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. On day third, the sixth post intervention mean leg discomfort score was lower in experimental group (19.77±5.81 VS 22.97±6.62) than the comparison group. The computed ‘t’ value was found to be statistically significant (t=1.9, p=0.05) at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that the hot fomentation was effective on reducing leg discomfort on third day among chronic kidney disease patients. Therefore, it is recommended to provide hot fomentation twice daily in chronic kidney disease patients for reducing leg discomfort.
