Male Involvement in Family Planning in Harari Regional State, Ethiopia, 2019

Introduction: Family planning (FP) programmes should always be a concern for both men and women. FP should be the business for both male and female. However, most of the FP programmes focus on only females as if it is only the business of female, with little or not at all attention given to the role of male that play the overall decision regarding FP. Objective: To assess male involvement in FP in Harari regional state, Ethiopia, 2019. Methodology: A cross-sectional study in institute settings was conducted from June 1st to September 15th, 2019.The data were collected through standardized questionnaire, with a sample of 122 participants for data processing and analysis; SPSS version 20 was used. Result: Majority of the study respondents that is, 119 (97.54%) reported that they have heard about FP methods. All participants who heard about FP methods, listed one method and one benefit of FP. Only 27 (22.69%) of the respondents had knowledge about sterilization FP method and only 29(23.77%) of the respondents agreed that men share the responsibility of FP. Conclusion: The study concluded that the level of male involvement in FP in the county is still low despite interventions made by both the Government and other nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in trying to increase the prevalence of FP.
