Lower Extremity Dysfunction in Recreational Footballers: A Cross-sectional Study

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the lower extremity dysfunction in male recreational football players. A cross-sectional survey was carried out on 100 recreational football male players using lower extremity functional scale questionnaire including males and females in the age group 17– 25 years. Football players are most frequently impacted by 37% of them having trouble making abrupt turns while sprinting, 26% having trouble running on uneven ground, and 21% having trouble jumping. The total lower extremity functional scale score of 71% of recreational football players fall between 70 and 80, while 16% fall between 60 and 70, and 7% fall between 50 and 60, 4% fall between 40 and 50, and 2% fall between 30 and 40. The lower extremity function in recreational footballers showed mild impairment. Total lower extremity functional scale score amongst the recreational football players were 71% lying in 70–80 range. According to lower extremity functional score, 70–80 range shows mild disability. Thus a mild impairment is present in lower extremity function in recreational male football players between age group of 17–25 years old.
