Stability Study of Fine Powder of Gandhaka Kalpa and Gandhakadi Yoga in the Management of Thalassemia Major-With Respect to Baseline Microbial Diagnostic Modalities

Abstract

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder. Thalassemia is the most transfused syndrome worldwide. People with Thalassemia disease are not able to make enough hemoglobin, which causes severe anemia. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the alpha and beta Thalassemia are the most common inherited single-gene disorders in the world. Adhishthana of the disease Thalassemia is the Beejabhagavayava, which is responsible for the formation of Rakta-Dhatu. Hence the Vyadhi can also be named as Beejadushtijanya Pandu. The aim of this study is to carry out stability of fine powder of Gandhaka Kalpa and Gandhakadi Yoga with respect to its stability against microbial contamination. Sample of both Gandhaka Kalpa and Gandhakadi Yoga powder were prepared (stored at room temperature) and finished product studied to check microbial contamination at regular intervals. All the samples of Gandhaka Kalpa and Gandhakadi Yoga powder at different time interval from the date of the preparation to the date of last microbiological study showed negative finding for bacterial as well as mycological contamination. Hence the present study was carried out to observe the stability study of fine powder Gandhaka Kalpa and Gandhakadi Yoga with respect to microbial contamination of sample prepared and stored in different climatic conditions and temperature. Thus a baseline microbial profile was studied at regular interval of 1 month for total 6 month, (i.e., time for consumption of prepared drug). At the end of study it was found that sample has not shown presence of any microbes. It is concluded that in microbiological study of the fine powder Gandhaka Kalpa and Gandhakadi Yoga, there was no growth found of microorganisms (bacterial or fungal), till 10th November 2019, i.e., 06 month from the date of preparation, shows its stability and good shelf life. Hence in present study the stability test of fine powder Gandhaka Kalpa and Gandhakadi Yoga with respect to microbiological findings was negative at room temperature, warm and cold, dry and humid condition
