Acute Myeloid Leukemia in Children: An Overview
Keywords:
Acute myeloid leukemia, Cancer, Child, Outcomes, SurvivalAbstract
Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) means when the body makes too many immature blood cells. These cells, called myeloid blasts, can't mature into normal white blood cells. In India, Cancer is the leading cause of mortality among children aged 5 to 14, with roughly 45,000 youngsters diagnosed each year. About 20% of children with leukaemia have this type of cancer. AML develops and gets worse quickly, so early diagnosis is important. Most children are cured with treatment. Outcome data for AML can be inferred that 50–80% of treated patients had experienced an event. On collaborative efforts, treatment of patients depends upon risk-stratified adapted protocols on local infrastructure and improvement in supportive care.
