Effectiveness of Fluoride Gel Application in Prevention of Dental Caries and Its Sensitivity in Post-radiation of Head and Neck Cancer Patient

Aim and objectives; Effectiveness of fluoride gel application on inhibition of dental caries and sensitivity in pre and post radiation (RT) of Head and Neck Cancer patients. Materials and method; Total number of 500 patients were recorded for period of 2 years who had undergone fluoride therapy pre RT and post RT. Fluoride gel has been applied after every 6 months. Patients who had come for regular follow up after every 6 months had been included in the study. Out of these total patients, 173 had come for regular follow up. All the patients’ demographic data, greys of radiotherapy, Decayed Missing Filled teeth (DMFT) has been recorded. Result: comparative analysis of pre-radiotherapy and post-radiotherapy values of sensitivity, dental caries, missing and filled tooth among the study was done. P-value <0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. While assessing the inter and intra group comparison, P-value was found to be <0.05 which showed statistically significant among the study population. Conclusion: According to our study, fluoride application interval for 6 months has effects on the inhibition of dental caries and sensitivity in post radiation patients of Head and Neck Cancer.References
