Synthesis and Characterization of TiO2 1% SiO2 of Crystal and its Bacterial Applications

K. Gayathiridevi, G. Pasupathi

Abstract

Three-dimensional (3D) TiO2 Anatase and Rutile structures have attracted much attention due to their optical properties. However, the large band gap of (3.2 eV) results in the fact that anatase TiO2 can act as photo catalyst and be excited by UV light, which only accounts for 3–5% of the solar energy. On considering that nobel metallatic nanomaterials can harvest visible light, in this paper, TiO2 and SiO2 nanocrystals with rod like morphology was prepared and used as photodevices, aiming to explore highly efficient visible-light-responsive photocatalyst. It was found that the visible photo reactivity of Anatase and Rutile TiO2 was greatly enhanced after modified with SiO2 dopants, and TiO2-rods loaded with 1% SiO2 exhibit the highest visible photocatalytic activity towards different dyes degradation. The SiO2 doped TiO2 was prepared by hydrothermal method, the effect of growth has been studied. Anatase phase present in both samples was confirmed by XRD analysis. The UV-DRS study showed that the SiO2-doped sample shows a slight red shift. The morphological study showed that the sample has more cracks than one at low temperature. The EDAX analysis confirmed the presence of SiO2 in the sample. Surface composition was determined by EDAX analysis.
