A Study of Histomorphological Changes of Lungs in Hanging Cases in Medicolegal Autopsies

Abstract

Hanging is a form of death, produced by suspending the body with a ligature round the neck, the constricting force being the weight of the body (or a part of the body weight. Hanging has been recognized, since ancient times to be a common mode of committing suicide. Hanging is chosen as a method of suicide used by both the extremes of age i.e. young and old, both the extremes of education i.e. illiterate to highly educated, both the ends of socio economic strata and used throughout the world. This study was carried out in the department of forensic medicine during the period from February 2016 to January 2017. During the period a total number of 244 cases of hanging were autopsied, out of which 198 cases were considered for the study. In this study, the authors have tried to find out the various changes (Histomorphological changes) in lungs following hanging.
