Gnidia glauca: A Review on Pharmacological Activities

Abstract


For thousands of years, people have used medicinal plants as a source of healing in their communities all around the world. The traditional Indian herbal medicines have their own value in the health care sector. In Indian system of medicine, Ayurveda, one of the plants Gnidia glauca is a flowering plant belonging to family Thymelaeaceae. According to study, G. glauca has antidiabetic, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, locomotor activity, anxiety and exploration like behaviours in high fat diet induced obese rats; free radical scavenging activity and reducing power of G. glauca studies have also been conducted. G. glauca is distributed in Africa Madagascar, Arabia, India and Sri Lanka. The majority of species are unique to South Africa. The goal of the current review is to provide a thorough overview of the literature on the photochemistry of G. glauca.
