The Arabic word “Sartan,” which means “crab,” is used to refer to cancer. The term cancer represents a group of diseases, about 200 tumours recognized as abnormal cellular proliferation (neoplasm). Over time the term cancer evolved to encompass a wide range of malignant tumors including those that affect tissues beyond the epithelial layer such as sarcomas and leukemia. The diagnosis, treatment, and management of cancer today must take a multidisciplinary approach due to the disease's complexity and varied nature. While there is still much to be learned about the biology of cancer, advances in research and medicine have led to improved outcomes and quality of life for many patients. For centuries people have viewed Sartan with great fear and have regarded it as a formidable adversary to humanity. From the earliest times even Hippocrates himself used the terms carcinos and carcinoma to refer to tumors that did not produce ulcers and those that did, respectively. Unani scholars have elucidated the notion of Sartan or cancer along with proposing various treatment plans that have not yet been fully investigated. Sartan is characterized as a type of Warm Salabat where the inflammation is resistant and accompanied by lesions filled with Madda Saudavia and its tributaries. Sartan (cancer) is primarily caused by morbid Sauda formed after Ahtraq of Sauda-e-Ahtraqia. The principles of Ilaj- bid-Dawa Ilaj-bil-Ghiza Ilaj-bit-Tadbeer and Ilaj- bil-Yad are followed to manage this disease. Despite extensive research being conducted for its treatment the current therapy options have significant adverse effects and high financial costs. Therefore, there is an urgent need to explore and discover better interventions with fewer or no side effects, easy accessibility and cost-effectiveness in the treatment of cancer.References
