Research and Review: On Irsale Alaq (Medicinal Leech), Mechanism of Action and its Uses with Applied Site
Abstract
Leech therapy is based on the concept of balancing body humours. In the Unani system of medicine the majority of the disease caused by the endogenous factors by excessive Humours accumulated of morbid matters foodstuffs or the metabolic products. There are 6 evacuation methods for the balancing of humours viz bloodletting, purging, vomiting, sweating, cauterization and diuresis are described. Among those methods, bloodletting methods are a most popular and effective therapy to cure the disease, in the bloodletting methods venesection, leech therapy and wet cupping is an essential part of Regimenal therapy. Leech therapy is widely practiced and known from time extreme antiquity is still alive. Leech therapy ha no side effect and very effective on the Skin disease and cardiovascular disease and testifies to its efficacy in a various health problem. This paper deals with the mechanism of leech saliva contain and its indication of leech therapy which are mentioned Unani literature with the area where to apply for a disease.
